We have all read the news today about the new ZiPhone application that promises an easy solution to unlock, activate and jailbreak the iPhone no matter what the firmware. However if your like me and just can't resist but try these thing out then you probably went right ahead and tested it out on your iPod Touch.

Well if you did you may very well be sitting there with an apparent dead iPod (apart from the apple logo) If so then never fear, all is not lost. I tried ZiPhone using 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 firmware and it didn't work (for me anyway).
If you ran ZiPhone using the command line ziphone -j then you probably got stuck at the 'Please wait 45"' with it appearing to do nothing. If so you need to do the following to get your iPod Touch back up and running (not jailbroken).
NB: The following methods worked for me, I cannot and will not guarantee they will work for you and I therefore hold no responsibility if you kill your iPod Touch.(although i'd hate that to happen!!)
Getting iPod to Detect again:
1. Close Ziphone software, Disconnect iPod touch and hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
2. Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
3. Your iPod should now detect in iTunes and you will need to do a restore.
Restore:2. Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
3. Your iPod should now detect in iTunes and you will need to do a restore.
If you do not want to restore your iPod to version 1.1.3 you will need to download the firmware from a third party, you can get version 1.1.1 from here. Then follow below:
1. Hold Ctrl and Shift Keys, Press the Restore button.
2. Locate where you saved the above file.
3. Click OK.
Did your restore fail?2. Locate where you saved the above file.
3. Click OK.
If your restore failed then you are in the same boat i was and you will need to do the following:
1. Disconnect your iPod and close Itunes, at this point I also went into task manager and closed the iTunesHelper.exe and iTuneservice.exe processes(hit crtl+alt+del then task manager) but this may not be necessary.
2. Download iBrickrv0.91 from here
3. On your iPod, hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
4. then, Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
5. Run iBrickr Application and select 'Boot my iPhone'
6. the background on your iPod should now turn red(ish) (if it doesn't then you have done somthing different to me).
7. Your iPod will appear to do nothing, After about a minute click on return to the main page on iBrickr.
8. Close iBrickr, Disconnect your iPod, hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
9. Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
10. Repeat the 'Restore' procedure in iTunes. It should now restore fine.
If your restore fails then you may have done something different this method worked for me twice, I thought i'd killed it but I'm now using version 1.1.3 but NOT Jailbroken. I only restored to 1.1.3 because thought that very soon Ziphone will probably bring out an iPod supported version + I'm not fussed whether mine is jailbroken or not i'm just curious with these things.2.
Hope it works for you.

Yeesh, thanks so much for that method. Was seriously worried that I'd screwed my Touch.
no problem mate
Wow thank you so much I got so freaked out when nothing was working! This worked perfectly!!
No probs, thanks for letting me know you'd sorted it, it's nice to know.
I thank you too, I'm the third one you've saved.
haha thanks so much, another ipod saved!
I've tried Ziphone and all I got was the iTunes logo and charge wire screen, my touch does not even detect on my computer other than being known by windows as Apple Backup or something like that. Any idea how to fix that?
YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!!!!
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!! AY YAY AY

To Charles...
I had a similar problem. ipod would come up as a usb recovery device, and give me a warning about an unsigned driver. When I would say to continue anyway, it's ask me where the driver was. For windows, it's in \windows\system32\drvstore\usbaapl(bunch of numbers)\. After that, itunes will detect and you can continue restoring.
Please, please, please..I don't know why I listened to my friend to get ziphone.com games but it definitely messed with my iPod. I am doing everything you are saying but my "Caitlin's iPod" is not popping up when I enter iTunes. I just bought this and I don't want it to be bricked. If there is anyway you can help me, PLEASE comment back.
At least call me, please (276)-690-4851
Caitlin - Connect your iPod to the computer. Press and hold the two buttons on the iPod Touch until an apple appears, but keep holding them until an apple and a "connector" thing show up. iTunes will open up and tell you that you need to restore your iPod. Restore it, and you should be golden.
i tried restarting my ipod touch, but afterwards white letters appear on the screen. then after that, this picture with some guy whos wearing all black sppears with an ipod on the screen with a firing Z on the screen of the ipod. On the bottom, it also said "Installing base apps..."
i tried following your instructions, but it doesnt seem to work for mine!my computer and itunes cant detect my ipod either!
i really need help!
Hi guys,
Sorry i havent been on my blog for ages but just read these posts...
Caitlin what exactly is your ipod doing? you say its not showing in itunes but what is the ipod showing on screen?if u need help email me dc_chappers[at]yahoo[dot]com and i'll try and help.
Please remember that this post is older than the current firmware and ziphone versions so may not work anymore. Also remember that holding down the home button then connecting usb(whilst keeping home button down) should enter recover mode no matter how dead you think your ipod is. I havent brinked any ipod or iphone yet.
I had no problems when using ZiPhone on three ipod touches. If I do I will be sure to look at this article!
I've read all sorts of 'bricked' guides. Most are just software problems, but I fear mine is hardware. The problem is that no combination of home and power buttons seems to bring any reaction to my ipod touch screen, it lays dead. The computer doesn't recognize it in any way. Is there an end-all-be-all trial to see if it is a hardware malfunction and not a software malfunction?
