ZiPhone: Has it bricked your iPod Touch? (UPDATED)

For this to work please ensure you are running iTunes 7.6.0.29 available from here.

We have all read the news today about the new ZiPhone application that promises an easy solution to unlock, activate and jailbreak the iPhone no matter what the firmware. However if your like me and just can't resist but try these thing out then you probably went right ahead and tested it out on your iPod Touch.

Well if you did you may very well be sitting there with an apparent dead iPod (apart from the apple logo) If so then never fear, all is not lost. I tried ZiPhone using 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 firmware and it didn't work (for me anyway).

If you ran ZiPhone using the command line ziphone -j then you probably got stuck at the 'Please wait 45"' with it appearing to do nothing. If so you need to do the following to get your iPod Touch back up and running (not jailbroken).

NB: The following methods worked for me, I cannot and will not guarantee they will work for you and I therefore hold no responsibility if you kill your iPod Touch.(although i'd hate that to happen!!)

Getting iPod to Detect again:

1. Close Ziphone software, Disconnect iPod touch and hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
2. Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
3. Your iPod should now detect in iTunes and you will need to do a restore.

Restore:

If you do not want to restore your iPod to version 1.1.3 you will need to download the firmware from a third party, you can get version 1.1.1 from here. Then follow below:

1. Hold Ctrl and Shift Keys, Press the Restore button.
2. Locate where you saved the above file.
3. Click OK.

Did your restore fail?

If your restore failed then you are in the same boat i was and you will need to do the following:

1. Disconnect your iPod and close Itunes, at this point I also went into task manager and closed the iTunesHelper.exe and iTuneservice.exe processes(hit crtl+alt+del then task manager) but this may not be necessary.
2. Download iBrickrv0.91 from here
3. On your iPod, hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
4. then, Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
5. Run iBrickr Application and select 'Boot my iPhone'
6. the background on your iPod should now turn red(ish) (if it doesn't then you have done somthing different to me).
7. Your iPod will appear to do nothing, After about a minute click on return to the main page on iBrickr.
8. Close iBrickr, Disconnect your iPod, hold down the sleep/home buttons until it switches off.
9. Hold down the Home Button and connect iPod again, keep the home button held until the iTunes logo Appears.
10. Repeat the 'Restore' procedure in iTunes. It should now restore fine.

If your restore fails then you may have done something different this method worked for me twice, I thought i'd killed it but I'm now using version 1.1.3 but NOT Jailbroken. I only restored to 1.1.3 because  thought that very soon Ziphone will probably bring out an iPod supported version + I'm not fussed whether mine is jailbroken or not i'm just curious with these things.

Hope it works for you.
